What is the Kubb game?
The game of Kubb combines the concepts of skittles and horseshoe throwing, where the goal is to knock down the opponent’s wooden blocks using batons. The winner is determined by the first player to successfully knock down the “king” at the end of the game. It is adaptable to various surfaces such as sand, concrete, or grass.
How to play Kubb?
The Kubb game is played on a rectangular field of about 5 meters by 8 meters, where the “king” is placed in the center, equidistant from the boundary lines. An imaginary line parallel to the baseline and passing through the king divides the field into two halves. Each team has five kubbs positioned on either side of the baseline. Teams, consisting of up to six players, compete against each other. Each team throws its six batons from its baseline, aiming to knock down the opponent’s kubbs. Once the throws are made, the fallen kubbs become “field kubbs” and are thrown behind the central line. The game then alternates to the other team, throwing at the opponent’s kubbs or, if field kubbs exist, knocking them down first before targeting the baseline kubbs. The game continues until one team has knocked down all the baseline kubbs of the other team. If batons remain, this team can attempt to knock down the king to win. However, if the king falls accidentally at any time during the game, the responsible team instantly loses.
